I am not one to plop my kids ahead of TV. As a matter of fact, there is little to no TV for a week at our House. Frankly, we have too much going on, so that barely missed. But I will confess in love holiday classic.
My father and I had a ridiculous love for Dr. Seuss ' How The Grinch Stole Christmas. " I'm not even sure why, other than his love to imitate The Grinch's face a very nasty and labeling some of the gifts "from: The Grinch." We're always watching on TV, but one year when I was older I buy video (Yes, this was a while ago), and after his death that means more to me than ever before.
Now that my parents, I would like to share a few choice holiday classic with my own children and even introduced them to a number of others about Chanukah and Kwanzaa. We do not have a designated movie night, but for the month of December I thought I'd start one, and thought I'd kick off with our family favorite, "The Polar Express."
I saw this movie about three years ago, while wrapping presents in the living room. My children are still too young for the film, but I think when it comes the time they are going to love this one. I was right. I was introduced by telling their story line and sit with them conversing about the plot when we watched. Yes, there are some scenes that need some hand holding, but now after a few viewings hundred they can talk about their favorite scenes, has a favorite song and even dig a little deeper to reflect on what's really going on in the story. My daughter is old enough to understand that the main character was a little hesitant about Mr. Claus, but my daughter just thinks this is a story that really cool with the train.
A favorite at my house the other is a "Curious George: a very monkey Christmas." I love this one and thought it was very well done. It's on TV this time of year, but I'm getting it for the kids on DVD so that they can be seen on the weekends.
